چکیده
Background and Aims The use of arch support foot orthoses is becoming quite widesprea in the management pathologies. This study examined how lower limb joint angular velocities change with wearing orthoses. Methods In this semi-experimental study, 20 healthy male volunteers (age: 34.2±8.9 years; height: 173.5±5.4 cm; mass: 76.3±13.5 kg; BMI: 25.7±9.1 kg/m2) participated. participants completed ten walking trials at a self-selected speed while 3-dimensional kinematic data their ankle, knee, hip joints were collected. Paired samples t-test was used for comparing two conditions: shod no Results decreased velocity extension (P=0.000) ankle dorsiflexion (P=0.02) compared to without However, results revealed significant differences knee values between both conditions (P=0.16). Conclusion We concluded that can decrease velocities. arch-support reduces risk overuse injuries by decreasing

How does ankle-foot orthosis stiffness affect gait in patients with lower limb salvage?
BACKGROUND Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are commonly prescribed during rehabilitation after limb salvage. AFO stiffness is selected to help mitigate gait deficiencies. A new custom dynamic AFO, the Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis (IDEO), is available to injured service members but prescription guidelines are limited. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES In this study we ask (1) does dynamic AFO stiffness a...
متن کاملDoes lower-limb angular velocities scale linearly with walking speeds?
During human locomotion, lower limb segments form two kinematic chains linked at the plevis and oscillates back and forth repeatatively. The angular motion of each segment (foot, shank and thigh) is inherently constrained by the adjacent segments. Therefore, the movement for each segment is not totally independent and there exists a high degree of redundancy in the kinematic data for each segme...
متن کاملThe influence of passive-dynamic ankle-foot orthosis bending axis location on gait performance in individuals with lower-limb impairments.
BACKGROUND Passive-dynamic ankle-foot orthoses are commonly prescribed to augment impaired ankle muscle function, however their design and prescription are largely qualitative. One design includes a footplate and cuff, and flexible strut connecting the two. During gait, deflection occurs along the strut, with the greatest deflection at a central bending axis. The vertical location of the axis c...
متن کاملEffects on Foot External Rotation of the Modified Ankle-Foot Orthosis on Post-Stroke Hemiparetic Gait
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of heel-opened ankle foot orthosis (HOAFO) on hemiparetic gait after stroke, especially on external foot rotation, and to compare the effects of HOAFO with conventional plastic-AFO (pAFO) and barefoot during gait. METHODS This cross-over observational study involved 15 hemiparetic patients with external rotation of the affected foot. All subjects were able to...
متن کاملGait Phase Recognition for Lower-Limb Exoskeleton with Only Joint Angular Sensors
Gait phase is widely used for gait trajectory generation, gait control and gait evaluation on lower-limb exoskeletons. So far, a variety of methods have been developed to identify the gait phase for lower-limb exoskeletons. Angular sensors on lower-limb exoskeletons are essential for joint closed-loop controlling; however, other types of sensors, such as plantar pressure, attitude or inertial m...
